The Texas Fire Museum is a museum dedicated to preserving the history of firefighting in Texas. The museum has three floors that are filled with artifacts, pictures, and other items related to firefighting. There are also interactive exhibits that allow visitors to learn about various aspects of fighting fires – including how they have changed over time. Visitors will enjoy seeing all the different types of equipment used for fighting fires at different points in history, as well as reading about the brave men and women who risked their lives protecting others from these terrible events!
History
This Museum located in West Dallas was opened in the year 2000 by a group of volunteer firefighters who wanted to share their history with others. They began collecting old equipment, uniforms, and other items that could be displayed to show visitors what it was like to fight fires many years ago. The idea for this museum came about because one day when they were cleaning out an abandoned firehouse, they realized that there was a lot of historical items they should not discard. It is important to preserve these types of things because it helps us learn more about our history, and also gives people who visit the museum an idea as to what life might have been like for firefighters in years past.
Things to do
This museum offers many different activities that will help visitors learn about firefighting. There are exhibits on every floor of the building, as well as a memorial room where you can honor those who have died serving their communities by fighting fires. Visitors should make sure they stop in to see all three floors filled with amazing artifacts!
Hours and Admission
The museum is open seven days a week from Tuesday-Saturday starting at 11AM until closing time – which varies depending on the season (please check website for details). The hours may vary during special events or holidays, so it’s best to call ahead before visiting if you want to be sure there isn’t anything going on that would cause them to close early. As far as admission goes, adults are charged $13 while kids age five-17 pay $11. However, children under the age of five are free!
Special Events and Exhibits
The museum holds a lot of different events throughout the year to celebrate firefighters from all over Texas. They host Fire Prevention Week every October with different activities scheduled each day for visitors to enjoy – including tours from various fire departments in Dallas County. The museum also hosts an annual open house during Thanksgiving weekend where people can come see what it’s like inside a firefighter’s helmet or boots, experience virtual firefighting games, talk with firefighters about their jobs and equipment used at fires, check out antique automobiles that were once owned by famous Texans who were also firefighters, and much more fun stuff!
