One of the most renowned attractions in Largo is the Florida Botanical Gardens. History
The Florida Botanical Gardens were first conceptualized in the early 1970s by a group of citizens who were concerned about the loss of natural habitats in Pinellas County. In 1975, the Florida Legislature appropriated funds to purchase the land for the gardens, and construction began soon thereafter. The gardens opened to the public in 1988 and have been growing in popularity ever since.
Today, the Florida Botanical Gardens are overseen by the Pinellas County Extension Service and operated by the University of Florida. The gardens are open daily from dawn to dusk and admission is free.
