George W. Bush Presidential Center
George W. Bush Presidential Center, located in Dallas, Texas is a place where people can come to learn about the presidency of George W. Bush. The center contains exhibits that tell the story of the president’s life and career, from his time as governor of Texas to his two terms as president of the United States. In addition to the exhibits, the George W. Bush Presidential Center also contains a library and research facility, as well as a public policy institute.
History
This presidential center was originally known as the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum. It was renamed in 2013 when it became a part of the presidential center complex by Dallas, Texas. The George W. Bush Presidential Center is the 13th presidential library to be built in the United States.
The building that houses the George W. Bush Presidential Center was designed by Robert A.M. Stern, who also designed the expansion of the Yale University Art Gallery and the new main building for Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. Construction on the center began in September 2009 and was completed in April 2013.
Exhibits
The exhibits at the George W. Bush Presidential Center tell the story of President Bush’s life and career from his time as governor of Texas to his two terms as president of the United States. The museum features interactive displays that allow visitors to learn about his policies, decisions, and accomplishments during his time in office.
Exhibits at George W. Bush Presidential Center include a replica Oval Office with original furniture from President Bush’s time in office; a recreation of Vice President Dick Cheney’s West Wing office; and two galleries dedicated to discussing the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. There are also exhibits on Hurricane Katrina, the September 11 attacks, and more recent events such as Ebola outbreaks around Africa while he was president too.
