History
The Metate Meadows trail was originally created by the Poway Trailblazers in 2001. The trail is named after the metates, or grinding stones, that can be found along the route. In the past, the metates were used by the indigenous people of the area to grind corn and other grains.
The trail is located on the north side of Poway Road, just east of Highway 67. The trailhead can be found at the end of a cul-de-sac on Esperanza Drive.

There are two sets of restrooms located in Metate Meadows, one at the trailhead and one near the picnic area. Both are handicap accessible.

Are Pets Welcome?
Pets are welcome in Metate Meadows, but they must be kept on a leash at all times. Therefore, it is important to bring water and food for your pet, as there are no water fountains available on the trail.
