Beautiful Parks

There are many wonderful parks and open spaces in downtown Oakland. Lake Merritt is one of the most famous landmarks for living in downtown Oakland. The lake has a three-mile walking track that circles around it, as well as fishing spots, kayak rentals (in season), and many different species of birds to enjoy watching!

Lake Temescal is another great place to live if you love nature. Visitors can go hiking or cycling on trails winding through grassy hillsides surrounding the reservoir at Lake Temescal Regional Park and swim their dogs off-leash about half a mile from the parking lot during summer months.

Live Music Venues & Theater

Oakland’s Uptown District – located north of Broadway between Grand Avenue and 27th Street – houses several music venues, a major theater and multiple dance clubs.

Oakland’s theatre scene is going strong with the renovation of The Paramount Theatre, a historic landmark that opened in 1931 next to City Hall. It has been restored as part of revitalization efforts in Downtown Oakland and features touring Broadway shows such as Jersey Boys, Wicked, and Mamma Mia! There are also several smaller theaters for local productions including The New Parkway Theater where you can watch independent releases or even rent it out yourself to host your own special event!

Food & Drink Opportunities

There are many places in downtown Oakland where people live so there are lots of opportunities for food and drink in this neighborhood. East Bay Vivarium is a unique pet store that specializes in unusual reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, and more. It also offers educational workshops for kids on the weekends plus free monthly lectures open to everyone who’s interested in learning about their local wild neighbors!

Corks & Taps is an upscale wine bar with over 100 wines available by the glass or bottle along with beer from around the world including several locally brewed options. This place has become one of Oakland’s favorite places to hang out due to its interesting array of menu items consisting mostly of cheese boards but there are some other great eats too like bruschetta, bread pizzas, charcuterie plates, and more.
