UC Riverside’s Botanic Garden is a place of beauty and serenity. It has been said that the garden can be a source of renewal, relaxation, and beauty for all who visit. The botanical garden was started in 1968 with just 150 plants and now includes more than 1,500 species, including rare and endangered plants from around the world. With so much to see here, it should come as no surprise that there are many benefits to visiting UC Riverside Botanic Gardens!
Stress Relief
Research shows that going to a garden is one of the best ways to reduce stress. A study conducted by the University of Michigan found that people who walked through a botanical garden had lower levels of anxiety and those who spent more time in the park experienced reduced blood pressure after leaving, compared to those walking at various distances from it. The UC Riverside Botanic Garden is an especially restorative place because its peacefulness and beauty allow visitors to connect with nature in a way that they might not be able to anywhere else.
Free Fitness Classes
For those who want a little more exercise while visiting the garden, you’re in luck! UC Riverside area offers free classes each week throughout April through October on topics such as yoga, Pilates, dance cardio workouts, and Tai Chi. For other times of the year or for fitness outside of these sessions, there are also plenty of hiking trails around campus where people can enjoy some fresh air while getting their steps in. Even just walking around the gardens is an easy workout thanks to all the hills at UCR which offer great views over much of Southern California’s Inland Empire!
Plenty Of Shade And Seating Areas
If spending time in the sun isn’t your thing, there’s no need to worry! The UC Riverside Botanic Garden has plenty of beautiful shade trees and benches where visitors can enjoy some peace and quiet. There are also several buildings on site with comfortable chairs that provide a respite from the Southern California sunshine while offering spectacular views over everything around you – perfect for birdwatchers or simply people-watching!

One of the best ways to meet new people is by going on a group tour! If you’re exploring UCR’s campus all by yourself, there are plenty of opportunities for self-guided tours as well.
