If you’re looking for a place to take your family this summer, the Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve in Cape Coral FL is an excellent option. The preserve offers hiking trails, kayaking and canoeing, bird watching opportunities, and many other natural activities. Below are a few tips for visiting this preserve:

Wear Appropriate Clothing

Make sure to wear shoes with good traction. If you plan on kayaking or canoeing, make sure your clothing is quick-drying and keeps you cool in the summer heat. Appropriate clothes are also important for hiking trails, because there could be poison ivy along the way and scratches from plants and thorns can get infected if exposed to water.

Bring a Camera

Many visitors come out of sheer curiosity about what they will see at this preserve. There’s so much beauty here that it would be a shame not to capture any of it! You may even want to bring binoculars as well as camera equipment such as lenses and memory cards for some wildlife photography opportunities. Four Mile Cove has bald eagles flying through its skies year-round and it’s an incredible sight to see.

Keep the Preserve Clean

Please remember that this preserve is a place for everyone, so be sure not to litter! If you bring your dog with you on any of these activities (and we highly recommend bringing them), please make sure they’re leashed at all times and clean up after them if they do their business anywhere besides designated pet waste stations. We hope you enjoy visiting Four Mile Cove as much as we do! It truly is one of our favorite places in Cape Coral.

Take Care of Kids

Please make sure to watch your children at all times. If you’re in the water with them, don’t let go of their hands! The fresh-water springs here in Four Mile Cove are beautiful but they pose certain dangers if not respected. There’s also wildlife throughout so please keep a close eye on any toddlers or young kids that might be exploring along the trails with you.

Don’t Forget Protection from the Sun!

Four Mile Cove is located near Southwest Florida International Airport and it can get very hot during summer months especially between 11AM – 12PM when the sun is directly overhead (in other words, “high noon”). Make sure everyone has sunscreen applied before heading out onto these activities because there is no shade for quite some time.

We hope you have an amazing time visiting Four Mile Cove!
