History
This park park was formally established in 1992. It is one of the best places to learn about coastal Florida’s history with Native Americans and early settlers. In fact, Fort George Island Cultural State Park has been a National Historic Landmark since 1978! The park was an important location during the Second Seminole War from 1836-1842 as well as being involved in Civil War troop movement due to its close proximity to Camp Milton which served as Union Army Headquarters for Jacksonville at that time.

Visitors can enjoy exploring over five miles of trails across this historic state park where they will find many historical buildings such as Crème House, Old Brick Road and Carriage Hill Archeological Site among others within their exploration journey through Fort George Island Cultural State Park . Named The Grove, this historic house has been carefully restored so visitors can enjoy viewing it to fully appreciate its historical value.
