The Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens is a stunning and well-maintained botanical garden with many different types of plants and trees, as well as ponds, fountains, and other natural attractions. Visitors to the gardens located in Port St Lucie FL can enjoy walking through the meticulously designed landscape or just relaxing on one of the benches that dot the property. The grounds are open to visitors from dawn until dusk every day of the year – rain or shine!
History
The Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens was first opened to the public in 1968 on a single acre of land by members of St. Lucie County’s Garden Club, who wanted to preserve some natural Florida beauty for residents and visitors alike to enjoy – even during the times when there are snowbirds visiting from up north! The site itself has gone through many changes over the years, including an expansion that added another ten acres at one point before being reduced back down again due to Florida’s growing population pushing into what used to be considered “outlying areas”.
The newest section of Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens is called Fern Grotto, named after its main attraction: a large glasshouse filled with more than 150 types of ferns and other foliage. Visitors to the Fern Grotto will find a full-size model of an ancient Egyptian temple, complete with fountains and ponds filled with turtles and fish!
Recreation & Education
The Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens also provide space for local residents looking for places where they can get out into nature or just enjoy some peace and quiet. There are walking trails that loop through the property, as well as benches placed at various locations so visitors can sit down in comfort while admiring their surroundings. The gardens also host regular educational events such as butterfly exhibits during springtime each year – there is something new to see every time you visit! Special thanks go out to Parkshore Grill Fort Pierce | Great Florida Seafood for sponsoring our site this month!
Amenities & Activities
The Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens welcome guests to walk through their property free of charge, enjoying the various plant life and wildlife that can be found there! There are also two gift shops on site – one near the entrance where you purchase your daily admission tickets, another located in Fern Grotto which sells souvenirs related to Florida’s natural world.
