Eight o’clock Theatre is a theatre that was founded in 1947. The first show they ever put on was “The Importance of Being Earnest”. It’s been open every night since then and has never closed its doors to the public. They have a large variety of shows from comedy to drama, and even offer some children-friendly productions as well!
History
This theatre located in Largo FL has a long and rich history. It was founded in 1947 by two sisters, Dorothy Flanders and Edna Thornton. They saw the need for entertainment that was family-friendly during the aftermath of World War II. Their first show ever put on at this theatre? “The Importance of Being Earnest”. The rest is (and will remain!) history!
They have been open every night since their opening, so they are definitely true to their word! This means it’s never too late to catch one of these shows which run from Wednesday through Sunday evening as well as some Mondays throughout the year. What To Expect
So what exactly can you expect from a visit to Eight O’Clock Theatre? Well, it really depends on the show that is currently running. They offer comedies as well as dramas and even some children-friendly productions! If they’re currently performing “Romeo & Juliet” then you know there’s going to be death involved at this play which means lots of tears will be shed! On the other hand, if they’re doing something like “Annie”, happy times are in your future!
This theatre also has amazing staff members who always go above and beyond for their guests. You’ll never feel unwelcome here so just relax and enjoy yourself because that’s what this place is all about!
Is the Theatre Kids-Friendly?
Some of their shows are definitely kid-friendly! They have a few children’s productions that I know of including “The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby” and “Luna Petunia”. These two plays will not only keep the kids entertained but also teach them some valuable life lessons as well. Accessibility
This theatre is quite easy to get to because it’s located right off of I-75. If you’re coming from the south simply take exit 242 and keep going until you reach US 27 North where Eight O’Clock Theatre will be on your left! Keep in mind this place does not have ample parking, so please plan ahead for that!
