History

This beautiful botanical garden was founded in 1938. It was originally named the Taylor Creek Park. It was gifted to Pinellas County by Mr. Taylor, one of the founders of Texaco Oil Company. The land originally covered around 70 acres but has since grown in size with additional acreage being donated over time, now totaling more than 200 acres.

In 1991 this park became known as Florida Botanical Gardens thanks to a generous donation from local residents and businesses through an extra property tax imposed on people living within the boundaries of our county parks system! Since then we have undergone many changes such as extensive renovations and new construction projects that all work together towards making it one of Florida’s most popular tourist attractions year-round.
